Our STORY

About Andrew

Andrew was born under the wide, endless skies of Suidwes, where the wind carried the scent of dust, sun, and tradition. In Namibia, biltong was never just food, it was a way of life. It was shared between friends, packed for long journeys, and crafted with care by hands that understood patience and quality.

Years later, life would change Andrew’s path in ways he never expected. From his wheelchair, the world looked different, but his spirit remained unshaken. The memories of Suidwes stayed alive in him, especially the unmistakable taste of true geelvet biltong, rich, tender, and full of character.

Instead of giving up, Andrew chose to build something meaningful.

Suidwester Geelvet Biltong was born from that decision, a promise to bring authentic, high quality biltong to others, just as he remembered it. Every cut, every spice, every batch reflects not only the tradition of Suidwes, but also resilience, passion, and pride.

From his wheelchair, Andrew is not limited, he is driven.

Driven to share a taste of home.
Driven to deliver quality without compromise.
Driven to prove that no circumstance can stand in the way of a dream.

How to store your Biltong

How To Store Your Suidwester Geelvet Biltong

Once you start, it’s hard to stop… and we don’t blame you. Our rich, flavourful geelvet biltong is best enjoyed fresh, especially if you love it soft, moist, and perfectly marbled. To keep every bite as delicious as intended, proper storage is key.

Prefer to enjoy it over time? Here’s how to keep it at its best:

Short-Term Storage
Store your biltong in a brown paper bag in the fridge or a cool, dry place. For optimal freshness, enjoy within two days. Give the bag a gentle shuffle once or twice a day to let the biltong breathe.

Long-Term Storage
For extended freshness, vacuum sealing is your best option. Stored this way in the freezer, your biltong can last up to 12 months without losing its quality.

Travelling or Sending Biltong
If you’re taking your biltong on a journey, keep it tightly packed and preferably in whole pieces rather than sliced. This helps preserve its flavour and texture over longer distances.

General Tips
Keep your biltong in whole pieces and slice only what you need. Always seal your package properly to protect it from air, moisture, and unwanted pests.

What to Avoid
Avoid plastic bags or sealed plastic containers, as trapped moisture can cause mould to develop.

If Mould Appears
A small amount of white mould can be wiped off with vinegar and is generally harmless. However, if you notice green or black mould, it’s best not to take any chances, rather discard it.

Our Advice?
Don’t wait too long… Suidwester Geelvet Biltong is best enjoyed fresh, bold, and irresistibly moreish.
